As of July 1, 2023, students have individual BrainPOP accounts. Teachers will need to assign BrainPOP Jr. videos to students rather than putting direct links in Schoology. Directions for assigning BrainPOP Jr. videos can be viewed here.
Overview
BrainPOP Jr. offers animated educational movies, quizzes, games, activities, and other resources. Short movies follow a diverse cast of characters as they explore topics across different subject areas. Movies are accompanied by a set of features which extend the concepts taught in the movie and allow young learners to apply what they have learned. Nearly all text on BrainPOP Jr. is read aloud, reinforcing reading skills and allowing young learners to navigate the site with more independence.
Target Audience: BrainPOP Jr. topics are appropriate for grades K through 3.
Content Connections: Science, Math, Reading and Writing, Social Studies, Arts and Technology, and Health.
Access: Teachers and students will log in by clicking on BrainPOP located in the left menu in a Schoology Course.

Citing BrainPOP Jr.
Citing BrainPOP Jr. movies: To reference an individual movie, or a factoid from the FYI section of that movie, you can use the MLA style for citing websites. The format is: “Movie Topic.” BrainPOP Jr. Date Viewed. < URL OF MOVIE >.
For example, to reference the Washing Hands movie after watching it on September 1, 2014, the reference would be:
“Washing Hands.” BrainPOP Jr. September 1, 2014. <http://jr.brainpop.com/health/bewell/washinghands/>.
3. Knowledge Constructor- Students critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce creative artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for themselves and others.
Features & Learning Supports
Movie: Short, animated movie serves as an engaging way to introduce, review, or further explore a concept in various content subject areas and on various topics.
Quiz: Two leveled quizzes accompany each movie. The quiz questions address higher order critical thinking skills and contain grade-appropriate vocabulary.
Game: An educational game that allows students to apply what they’ve learned from the movie. Some topics also feature games created by BrainPop's GameUp partners.
Word Wall: A set of vocabulary words and definitions taken from the movie. You can print these words out and put them on your class’s word wall. You might use the Word Wall as a warm-up activity to get students familiar with the terms before they watch the movie.
Talk About It: A prompt and graphic organizer that accompanies each movie. Each topic has a different graphic organizer, including Venn diagrams, KWL charts, sequence charts, and more.
Write About It: A writing prompt where students are asked to write a paragraph, a short story, a letter, or even a poem.
Draw About It: A drawing prompt in which students may be asked to draw their answer to a math story problem or draw a food web.
Read About It: Provides grade- level appropriate reading recommendations that further explore the topic that students can check to see if they are in their school or local public library.
Activity: A printable sheet that further extends the concepts explored in the movie.
Belly Up: is a comic that follows two goldfish, named Frank and Joey. The comic extends the concepts taught in the movie.
Pop a Joke: A silly joke about the topic.
UDL: Features are designed to address and appeal to different learning styles through multiple means of representation and expression. Hovering the mouse over titles will read the content aloud in most areas, such as the subject search, word wall, and any other interactive content.
Closed Captioning: Reinforce comprehension and word recognition for all students. To turn on captions, simply click on the “CC” button next to the movie player controls.
Transcripts are accessible from the movie player with a feature to print.
Settings allow users to slow down a movie or change the quality of a video.
The Big Word Wall: Found on the homepage, this is a collection of all the vocabulary explored in BrainPOP Jr. topics. All the words and definitions are read out loud and each come with a link to the movie where the vocabulary was explored.
