Maryland Virtual Professional Learning Opportunities (MVPLO) through MSDE

INTRODUCTION TO CANVAS FOR MSDE FACILITATORS 

Course Dates: October 16, 2024 –November 12, 2024 Credit: 1 MSDE CPD Credit # 21-00-20 

Course Fee: No Cost 

Description: Introduction to Canvas for MSDE Facilitators (ICMSDE) is a 1-credit asynchronous class designed to prepare MSDE online instructors to implement the features and tools in the Canvas LMS during online course facilitation. Participants will examine Canvas tutorials, readings, and videos. They will engage in interactive practice activities and self-check quizzes to ensure their knowledge and abilities in implementing the Canvas features during future course facilitation. 

Prerequisite: Participants must have completed Online Teaching in Maryland with a final grade of at least 80% to participate in the course. Proof of completion may be requested. Please complete the registration form. You will be notified once your prerequisite course has been verified.

ONLINE TEACHING IN MARYLAND 

Course Dates: October 9, 2024 –December 10, 2024 

Credit: 3 MSDE CPD Credits #20-00-03 

Course Fee: $250 plus a non-refundable $30.00 registration fee Description: This newly updated online course prepares participants to facilitate asynchronous online courses for students and other educators. Readings, hands-on activities, discussions, role-playing, and other activities support learning the pedagogy behind successful online learning, teaching, and assessment. In addition, practice in the course's "Sandbox" helps participants apply their knowledge and utilize the course features of MSDE's learning management system.

Activating the Voice of the Student through Digital Tools

Dates: September 11, 2024 - October 22, 2024 and November 13, 2024 - December 17, 2024

Credit: 1 MSDE Continuing Professional Development credit # 24-68-18C

Course Fee: $180

Description: In this one-credit self-paced course, K-12 educators will gain an overview of how digital resources can engage students and allow them to contribute to their learning process by increasing their voice in the classroom. Educators will explore characteristics and selection criteria for digital resources (including accessibility and privacy) and apply digital resources to classroom instruction.

Teaching Technology and Universal Design

Description: This online course, co-developed by the Education Development Center (EDC) and the Center for Applied Special Technologies (CAST), provides an introduction to the concept of Universal Design for Learning™ (UDL), its neurological basis, and strategies for a UDL approach in instructional settings. Educators will be informed of the framework and guidelines of UDL and resources that aid in learning support.

Transforming Instruction Through the Integration of Web-Based Tools

Description: This three-credit, 45-hour course is designed to empower K-12 educators with the essential skills and knowledge to seamlessly integrate digital resources into their teaching practices. The course covers diverse aspects of incorporating digital resources into the learning environment, such as content consumption and creation, collaboration, feedback, and emerging technologies.
