Scratch & ScratchJr


Grade levels: All Grades

Scratch 3.0 and ScratchJr are coding platforms based on Blockly and specifically designed for young learners. Scratch is recommended for grades 3 and above while ScratchJr offers a simplified interface for non-readers and grades 2 and below.

Access: Both programs are available for Chromebook installation through the BCPS Google Play Store. Scratch is also available for Windows installation through Intune and online at Students must not create Scratch accounts.

ISTE Standards for Students

    • Innovative Designer. 4d - Students exhibit a tolerance for ambiguity, perseverance and the capacity to work with open-ended problems.

    • Computational Thinker. 5 - Students develop and employ strategies for understanding and solving problems in ways that leverage the power of technological methods to develop and test solutions.

    • Creative Communicator. 6c - Students communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating or using a variety of digital objects such as visualizations, models or simulations.
